The liver is one of the most important organs in the body, responsible for filtering toxins from the blood, processing nutrients, and producing bile to aid in digestion. When the liver starts to fail, it can have serious consequences for your health. Here are 7 signs that your liver may be failing:

 

1.     Swelling in the abdomen and legs:

     When the liver isn't functioning properly, it can cause fluid buildup in the abdomen and legs, leading to swelling and discomfort.

 

2.     Dark urine: 

     Urine that is dark in color can be a sign of liver damage, as the liver is responsible for processing waste products from the body, including bilirubin.

 

3.     Chronic fatigue: 

     A failing liver can lead to a lack of energy and chronic fatigue, as the liver is responsible for converting food into energy.

 

4.     Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice): 

     Jaundice occurs when the liver is unable to process bilirubin, a waste product from the breakdown of red blood cells. As a result, bilirubin builds up in the blood and causes yellowing of the skin and eyes


5.     Nausea and vomiting:

     Liver failure can cause nausea and vomiting, as the liver is responsible for processing toxins and waste products from the body.

 

6.     Confusion and disorientation: 

     When the liver fails, toxins can build up in the blood and affect brain function, leading to confusion and disorientation


7.     Easy bruising and bleeding:

A failing liver can affect blood clotting, leading to easy bruising and bleeding.

 

8.     Sleepiness is the desire to fall asleep. 

     It is sometimes referred to as drowsiness and typically increases the longer we stay awake. To understand what is really meant by sleepiness, consider this extreme example:

Imagine that you didn’t sleep enough over the last several nights and you then had a delicious lunch with turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, and plenty of alcohol. It’s now two in the afternoon and you're sitting comfortably in a big soft chair in a room that's too warm. You're reading a boring book or listening to an uninteresting television program. Your eyelids are getting heavy. A warm feeling comes over you. You are about to doze off. You are sleepy.
