2013 Sweet Cheeks Dry Riesling

The last white wine we tried as part of my series bringing you some of the exciting wines being made in Oregon was from the Umpqua Valley and was delicious - the 2012 Müller-Thurgau by Henry Estate Winery. Today, we'll try another wine from a winery that has already been part of the series - Sweet Cheeks Winery. While I felt the first wine I tried from this winery - the 2013 Riesling - lacked balance, the second wine I tried was much better:
2013 Dry Riesling by Sweet Cheeks Winery (Eugene, Oregon).

Following a warm and dry summer, the grapes were harvested on September 23, 2013. The fruit was hand picked and sorted before fermentation. 386 cases were produced and the wine comes in at 12.4% ABV.

Here it is in the glass:
A different look:
The wine showed a pale straw color. Plentiful pear, apple, petrol and butterscotch could be found on the nose. Pear, tart apple, lime and limestone followed on the palate. The wine showed bright acidity and minerality, along with nice balance. The wine exhibited decent structure and good length. A nice showing that would go perfectly with a dish of pasta alla carbonara.

The wine can be purchased for $20* at the winery or you can contact the winery directly to check on its availability.
